HALO2 · HIGH-PRESSURE WATER MIST · 100 BA

Residential fire suppression, engineered, independently fire tested and installed nationwide.

Quenchfire designs and manufactures the Halo2 high-pressure water mist system in Britain. Since 2012 we have installed more than 5,000 systems, supporting developers, fire engineers, Building Control and housing providers from concept design to long-term maintenance.

STANDARDS UPDATE

From BS 8458 to BS EN 14972-17: where residential water mist standards stand today.

The standards framework for residential water mist changed in 2025. Here is a plain statement of what is current, what has been withdrawn, and how Halo2's independent fire test evidence should be read.

BS 8458:2015 WITHDRAWN

The former UK code of practice for residential and domestic watermist systems. BSI withdrew it in 2025 on publication of EN 14972-17. It is no longer the current standard for residential water mist.

BS EN 14972-17:2025 CURRENT

Fixed firefighting systems – Water mist systems – Part 17: Test protocol for residential occupancies for automatic nozzle systems. Part of the EN 14972 series, alongside Part 1 for design, installation, inspection and maintenance.

Halo2 EN TESTING · EARLY 2027

In September 2022 the Fire Protection Association tested Halo2 to the BS 8458:2015 Annex C room fire tests. It met the clause 6.1 recommendations in all six scenarios. That evidence remains relevant, independent technical evidence for fire engineers; it is not a claim of compliance with EN 14972-17. Our EN 14972-17 test programme is in its final design stage, with completion expected in early 2027.

WHAT BSI HAS SAID
“It should not be inferred simply from the withdrawal of BS 8458:2015 that products manufactured to the standard or certification schemes developed to the standard can no longer be used or recognised following the publication of EN 14972-17:2025.”
Committee Manager, BSI technical committee FSH/18/5 Watermist Systems. BSI also notes that, as a non-harmonised EN, use of EN 14972-17 is not a legal obligation unless imposed by statutory or regulatory bodies.

For fire engineers and Building Control bodies Our standards position statement sets out the test evidence available, its scope and limitations, and our EN 14972-17 programme. Project acceptance should always be agreed with the fire engineer and Building Control body.
Halo2

Fine water mist at 100 bar. Less water, targeted protection.

High-pressure water mist breaks water into very fine droplets that absorb heat rapidly and displace oxygen at the fire, controlling it with far less water than a conventional sprinkler. Halo2 brings that technology to homes and residential buildings with a compact pump unit and discreet automatic nozzles.

A · PUMP UNIT Compact triplex pump 100 bar from a 1 bar mains supply. 500 × 300 × 300 mm, 25 kg, floor or wall mounted.
B · PIPEWORK High-pressure distribution Small-bore high-pressure pipework, routed to suit new-build and occupied homes.
C · NOZZLES Automatic, ceiling-recessed 57 °C frangible bulb, k-factor 0.9. Each nozzle operates individually, only where there is heat.
D · SIGNALLING Integral alarm and outputs On-unit alarm and status indicator, with 230 V or volt-free NO/NC output for connection to building systems.
